Thank you for visiting the IGSA web site. Our societyís goals are to increase awareness in the field of Italian genealogical research through our newsletters, meetings, and by assisting members in finding others with the same areas of research interests. We do not, however, do research for people but rather educate them in the methods needed to research for themselves. We keep our members abreast of new books available through many different publishers, instruct them at our quarterly meeting, present lectures at conferences and for other societies, as well as printing "How-To" articles in our quarterly newsletter "Lo Specchio."

Several books that we recommend for researchers just starting to trace their Italian heritage are the following:

For additional books of interest visit our Book Reviews Page.

Our membership is given a yearly membership directory listing surnames that each member is researching to assist networking with other members searching in the same geographic areas of Italy. Each area of Italy has its own special problems and strengths that the researcher should know before attempting to search the records. Some areas of Italy have had their civil records microfilmed by the LDS (Mormon) church and others have not. This type of information can be valuable to the beginner and will help save many frustrating hours.

Our membership application is available on-line should you wish to join. Our membership runs from July 1 to June 30. If you join before March 1 of any year you will receive the back issues from that year and your membership will expire on June 30. If you join after March 1 your check will be applied to the year starting July 1 (back issues can be purchased).

Thank you for visiting our web site and we wish you well in your research!
